SUMMARY:NECA 2026 Estimating 3-Day Course
DESCRIPTION:NECA’s Basic Estimating of Electrical Construction course is a hands-on approach to the basics of electrical estimating. This three-day course focuses on understanding the cost components of electrical estimating\, instilling industry best practices\, all while developing a sound estimating process. Topics are presented in a lecture format followed by hand-on estimating exercises to reinforce the principles learned. Through the hands-on exercises participants will be expected to conduct a takeoff\, develop a material list\, lookup and apply labor units\, summarize the costs of the estimate\, and apply overhead and profit to the estimate. Each lesson builds upon the previous one\, with all the learning coming together through a simulated bid opening on the final day. \nCourse Overview: \nWhen: February 23rd – 25th \nTime: 8 AM – 4 PM Each day \nLocation: Puget Sound Electrical JATC – 550 SW 7th St. Renton\, WA 98057 \nLunch will be provided daily \nThe Basic Estimating of Electrical Construction course will help participants to advance their knowledge\, ability\, and skills in electrical estimating beyond their current level of experience. The intent of this course is not to make each participant a seasoned estimator as that takes time and experience. This course will\, however\, provide insight into estimating best practices\, establishing an estimating process and challenge each participant to grow as an estimator. While computers will be used as part of this course\, the primary focus will be on the estimating process and how computers and technology are tools to make estimators more efficient and eliminate mistakes. \nParticipants of this course should already have a general understanding of electrical materials and methods used in commercial and industrial construction. This should include general knowledge of electrical symbols used in construction documents\, knowledge of various types of electrical materials and their use in electrical construction\, and basic knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC). \nCourse Learning Objectives: \nThrough active participation and completion of this course participants will be able to: \n\nDefine estimating terminology\nRecognize and identify electrical symbols\nIdentify potential estimating errors and correct them\nUnderstand the costs associated with electrical construction\nPrepare an estimate for a commercial electrical project including identifying the scope of work\, organizing a material takeoff\, applying labor units\, summarizing costs and calculating a bid price for the project.\n\nParticipants will need to bring the following items to the course: \n\nA laptop or tablet running the current version of Microsoft Excel and the ability to open PDF files\nA measuring device such as a roller-meter multi-scale or hard-sided scale (capability to measure 1/8”\, 1/4”\, 1/2″\, 1:10 and 1:30 scales)\nHand tally counter\nHighlighters (colors to include yellow\, orange\, pink\, blue\, green and purple)\nRed pen or pencil\nPencil & Eraser\nCalculator\nNotepad or Notebook

This course will open with the Leadership and Motivational Skills Module and is aimed at equipping key individuals within your firm with essential knowledge. We encourage you to identify suitable candidates from your teams who would benefit from this opportunity! It has been designed to deepen the understanding of critical factors influencing your firm’s success. \nWe will bill the contractors based on how many you have signed up once the 1st module is complete; it will be one $300 fee for the class as a whole. He is a Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST) and has extensive experience in both construction and general industries. Rhett provides safety\, health\, and environmental services to contractors and businesses across the Pacific Northwest\, West Coast\, and beyond. He also teaches various safety-related courses at the University of Washington and other organizations in the Puget Sound region. Additionally\, he is an authorized Department of Ecology instructor\, offering Certified Erosion & Sediment Control training and consulting. Rhett facilitates the Puget Sound Safety Summit Conference\, a monthly meeting of safety professionals and contractors featuring industry-relevant keynote speakers.

DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to announce that we will be hosting a class on Project Level Cash Flow Management this October at the JATC in Renton! \nAs a construction manager takes on more responsibility\, they end up managing significant amounts of revenue and risk. Poor cash flow is the number one reason companies fail\, which is exactly why this training matters. This in-person course covers the construction payment cycle\, the value of timely and consistent invoicing\, and the impact of delayed invoicing and receivables.
